To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone

As you all are aware who are users of the XG-100P that the battery life isn't the best. I recently ordered a battery from GTS my harris charger will NOT charge the GTS battery which is a multi-chemistry charger.

The charger will charge the battery I ordered from battery universe which is a li-polymer. the GTS battery is also a LI-POLYMER battery.

Any ideas?

Also the GTS batteries will not clip in the radio at the bottom

I like the GTS batteries for 100P/P7100 very much and use them with GTS and other aftermarket chargers just fine. They don’t charge in Harris chargers because that one specific battery out of their entire lineup (the batteries specifically for the 100P, which also fit P7100 and P7200 radios) lack the “smart chip” that handshakes between a Harris charger and battery. I don’t know why…

All their other batteries have this chip. For instance, I use GTS hi cap models exclusively on my 200P and I think they are the best battery offered for the radio.

What about the TAC-1 Batteries ? I read somewhere that they will charge in the Harris charger. Correct me if I'm wrong.
It depends on which Harris charger. The oval shaped Harris charger, part number 12082-0312-01, will.
Some of these batteries have an extra "fin" on the side that prevent them from being inserted in certain Harris chargers. Most of the box shaped Harris chargers will not accept these batteries.

I have a Waveband Communications Li-Po battery that will charge in the above mentioned Harris charger, as well as the Endura model EC1-V2-HA2LI. This is the one to use if you have Li-Po batteries.

Second this. I've been using Wavebands' batteries and they last easily 18 hours.

I use the tac 1 batteries and they charge fine in the OEM Harris charger. The bad part is you have to squeeze the battery and radio together very hard for it to click into place. I have notified the owner at Tac1 and he is aware of the issue, I hope they fix it. I have not had any other issues with their products other than that.

TAC-1 doesn't make the batteries. They are relabeled Power Products batteries. It's also not the battery. It's the XG-100P that's the issue. Battery fitment is a long known issue with these.

If I may ask here, after reading this thread and as a new XG-100P user I feel like the best fit is to get the Endura charger from Magnum Electronics and pair that with the Waveband Li-Po battery? I have no charger or battery as of yet, starting fresh.

** It appears Magnum also sells the Power Products 4100mAh Li-Po P7100 batteries which I believe are also used on the XG-100P IIRC?

Endura makes very reliable chargers. That is what I use for my Kenwood/Viking and Harris Radios.

The Endura charger part number for the XG-100P is TWP-HA2LI. This is for Li-Po batteries. If you want to charge NiCad or NiMH batteries, the part number is TWP-HA2MH. You apparently can't charge both types with the same charger.

You might check eBay and see if you can get an OEM Harris charger that should charge both types.

I am able to charge both types in mine. It has two different slots for them.

TWC2M-HA2LI-D is my model number.

Power products literature specifies HA2LI is for lithium chemistry. You need HA2-MH for nicd or nimh batteries.

Appreciate all the replies. I have the Endura EC1-V2-HA2LI on the way with the Lithium-Ion/polymer cup. I need to order the TWP-HA2MH cup for it to charge my NiMH batteries. I have it figured out now. I want both cups for both battery types. Seems easy to swap out cups with a single screw holding them in.

Who did you order the charger from if I may ask?

As for GTS.... all the Thales 25 ones I bought have died. Oddly, the working ones are old OEM ones. May be hit or miss... but I wrote off GTS as garbage.

I ended up going with a Waveband Communications battery and it is very well built and solid little battery. So far have about 25 charges on it and it's doing great. Lasts me about 14 hours on RX only depending on the amount of radio traffic that day. Highly recommend. It did take a couple weeks to arrive but worth it.

Yeah, the Power Products lithium polymer batteries work well. I have several and they are over 4 years old now and still going strong. I have one GTS battery and it's used with my P7200. No problems so far. I think the GTS batteries are overpriced though. The worst radio batteries I've had to deal with to date are the THALES PRC-148 lithium batteries.
