• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I've been hard at work learning and programming conventional and P25 conventional channels. I would like to set up some P25 I Trunked channels to monitor however it seems to be a whole separate beast and there's almost nothing on online about configuring it. Does anyone have a tutorial?

Thanks again.

You’ll need to populate your WA Network, Group Set, Trunked Set, and P25 Trunked System properly for the system you want to monitor. You MUST set registration to Never in system settings and uncheck TX in every group you enter. Not following these steps will get you in trouble and get the radio bricked.

You are correct that there is little published information available because making it available is a liability. Using the RR database page and the RPM help menu should get you mostly there…

That's pretty much it. As long as you follow the steps above you should be in business. If your radio displays "CC Scan" or "Band Scan" after all that then double check your settings because something's not right

I know I may be asking a bit too much here, but by chance would anyone have a template/deprecated P25 Trunking personality that I can use as a template to study?

E: I do NOT need encryption here. I'm not even going to look at that until I get way more knowledge.

Your best bet is to post in your state’s radio discussion forum and ask for help programming for the specific system you are trying to monitor. Be patient and someone may contact you to help or provide a working personality. It’s tough to provide a template because systems can differ quite a bit and all of the settings matter.

Encryption for monitoring? Forget it. Not just in the short term until you learn more, but forever. Municipalities using encryption aren’t going to share their keys with you and you aren’t going to crack AES256. These entities also roll keys from time to time at which point, you’re back at zero if you ever got anywhere to begin with. The only time you would use encryption is if you had a commercial license for dedicated frequencies and wanted to run your fleet of radios encrypted. Then, you would either need keyloading hardware and associated cables, or Harris KeyAdmin, which is quite expensive.
