• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I ordered something from the RFguys almost a month ago, I've been emailing them for an order status and received zero response, and no info on their website. I'm about to file a dispute with my bank, it sounds like they are a pretty crappy company, they don't even have a phone number.

Going to spend big bucks on a radio but cheap out by trying to pinout the cable. Homemade cables are sure way to brick a unit.

I am not trying to make homemade programming cable I am just trying to get the pin-out so I can use my aviation head set and other accessories through the quick disconnect Hirose adapter. I did order cable from New London technology for about $170. They had 6 more in stock at the time. BTW you can brick your radio with any cable if you dont know what are you doing but I agree making a cable after spending multi K $ on the radio makes no sense.

That's not uncommon for RFguy's. Some people get burned others get their cables.

I disagree. I’ve used home-built cables for years; same pin out, exactly the same wiring as a factory cable but only cost me $5 worth of parts instead of $100 plus for a name. Never had a lick of trouble.

It‘s not so much being cheap; it’s more along the lines of not wasting my money paying 20x the value of something simply because of the name when I can have the satisfaction of building it myself/

Would you say it's better to make the xg-100p update cable, or better to buy it?

I’d save the headache and cough up the dough… but that’s just me… also the fear of bricking a $1000+ piece of discontinued equipment gives me nightmares

I have made cables before for myself from LPE all the way to XG75 and never had a problem. But I think the XG100p cable is a different animal...Because of the UCD connector...So I got the OEM no problems and works wonderful
