• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have an XL185P and scanning between TGs is smooth as butter… I know several people with XL200Ps and they all complain about a popping sound when scanning TGs… one stated the popping sound goes away when using a Bluetooth Speaker Mic

My XL200P has a slight popping noise whenever the squelch opens (upon receiving any transmission). Not just while scanning. It does it in all modes (P25 or analog FM). It’s super annoying. It also does it with a wired RSM attached.

I know what he's talking about.. its an intermittent popping while not actually receiving anything and is quite annoying. Hopefully a firmware fix will be issued to correct it.

been a Harris issue for a long time, we had the same issues with the XG-100s popping when switching from a conventional channel to a talkgroup. L3 hardware is just weird like that. Same behavior seems to be persistent on the XL line as well.

I know what you are talking about @nikronzo but I think this is a different issue. When just sitting on my desk, not receiving anything but with scan toggled on, my XL200 will occasionally have a pronounced clicking or popping from the speaker. Toggling scan off and back on usually makes it go away for a while.

well going back to the OPs post, I have not noticed any "popping" on the 185s we have in the fleet but the 200s do have this issue from time to time.

To be more specific regarding my XL200P, when a transmission comes through there’s a pop/click type noise right before the voice comes through the speaker. My P7200s do it very, very bad, with the XL200 it’s more subtle but I can’t believe a radio this expensive does this. It seems like poor engineering.

The popping noise is the amplifier kicking on. It’s very faint on the XL200 compared to the APX7000.
