If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,

A department in my area recently switched to DMR Conventional and I have never programmed an XPR series radio before. Where in the CPS would I enter the TG number? I see the section for CC and SL but nothing for TG. I am programming a XPR3500e with CPS 2.0. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I think the question was answered above.

But I've personally gotten the same question asked numerous times, I tell them to create contacts and they tell me it still doesn't work. So I'll just leave a small "list" of things you should check before programming a radio for monitoring.

1. Get an SDR, a lot of the following issues can be diagnosed before even trying to figure things out.
2. Make sure the system isn't using RAS. RR doesn't list the use of RAS very often. Simply, RAS is a MotoTRBO feature that prevents unauthorized listeners/transmitters using a radio (some chinese radios have "ignore RAS" feature, do your own research!). RAS enabled repeaters (conventional or trunked) will not unmute on your radio (meaning you won't hear anything).
3. Make sure the system isn't trunked, some people mistaken Capacity+ single freq/site trunking as conventional. That can also lead to issues like part of the conversation not receiving (mainly because the TG is on a different timeslot). You could program your radio to monitor the system as a Capacity+ system (using Capacity+ parameters in CPS), however I recommend against doing that for beginners, especially if you aren't sure of what you are doing.

^ These are some of the most basic things you should check before programming the radio for a system. I hope the op is enjoying monitoring the DMR system!
