To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone, new hear, first post, hope you guys can help me out.

I'm looking for an adapter to use my aircraft style headset with a Motorola XTS1500/2500 handheld radio. Any idea where to find one? I found an adapter with PTT switch for a single plug military/helicopter style headset but not for the 2 plug standard aircraft style. That adapter alone was $230 and then would need to find another to convert the 2 pin to the U-174/U mil plug. I'll end up with 6' of cords & adapters!

If they are not avalible, My 2nd question is, if I got a XTS1500 remote speaker mic (like worn on shoulder), could I make an adapter if I cut it off & attached female ear & mike jacks? I would not really need a remote PTT to transmit, keying the one on the radio transmits just like if you pushed the one in the remote mic, but it would be nice.

Let me know what you think & if it could be done. I would think the mic & earphones on a headset would work with a motorola handheld, but i don't know.
Thanks!

you can do that with the speaker mic if you want. i know of a few folks who have done it. unless you just have to be able to plug the headset in to a standard 2 pin jack, why not just buy the connector and pins and put the XT accy plug on the end of the cord itself?

You can - but i think there is electronics in the radio connector that you will
have to bypass in order to make it work. I had to do this with cords from an
MTS speaker mic and i know some of them are the same for the XTS series.
I had made some programming cables for the MTS series from these cords,
and also had to move some of the pins around due to the audio and programming
pins being totally different.

Your talking about buying a bare connector & adding pins where I need them? Where would I look to find that & would there be a pin schematic included ? I was hoping someone knew of a place to buy it made up already. Harder than I thought.

Thanks for the tip. I looked at the website & didn't find what I need, I emailed a David Clark rep. They make one for a single plug (U-174/U), but not the 2 plug style. If you do have a 2 plug (P5568) look & see if there's a part number on it.

I also talked to Gibson & Barnes where I bought my Gentex helmet. They also make a plug like the DC one, said they may be able to make what I need. Thanks for the help.

Haha, not really an option since I still wana use it in the plane! Yes I could buy a motorola headset, but then would have to switch back & forth between headsets. If I had my helmet on that won't work.

ok i just pulled up the manual an dthe universal connector does not use a hard PTT. see the attached file you vary opt 1/2 pins voltage or ground to select PTT/speaker/etc. i would have to look deeper in to the schematics to see if it is even possible without a circuit in the line.

On that XTS universal connnector pdf can you explain how that option select works? I have a push to talk for a CP200 for a firefighter helmet and I need to adapt it to the XTS Universal Connector.
