• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Howdy,
I just purchased an XTS 1500 but was curious if it was possible to rehouse that 1500 into a Model 3 2500 housing and have it flashed for FPP. Is that possible or has it been done?

Best,
DM

It has been done, my work has many XTS1500's and XTS2500's in service, that must be replaced soon, as the XTS series radios went end of support in January of 2021. This means Motorola Solutions Inc. will not sell you the flash, but there may be some vendors sitting on them still. I know many radio shops that bought flash upgrades and entitlement ID's they have yet to use. Finding one that will sell to you may be the harder part. The physical re-casing is the easy part. Good luck and happy hunting.

Thanks, I'll start my hunt!

It’s more than a Flash. First a keypad, & model 3 case will have to be swapped. Then using unmentionable software, the model number will have to be changed to the full keypad model. Finally a proper FPP flash will have to be downloaded to the radio. After all that flashing, I’d suggest an auto tune. My friend has a VHF FPP 2500 that started life as a 1500.

I may go down the Model 2 route since I want to use it with trunking to scan, I imagine it's the same procedure though?

You mean the one that you have an application pending with a BS fee waiver.

So is your life that miserable that you have to bully people on the internet to compensate for your own feelings? You’re an admin, set a good example. I come here for the forum, not the crap.

You obviously understand nothing about FCC applications, you’re “smart” so go research it. I’m done here, I’ve got better things to do then argue with degenerates who live in their mothers basements.

I don’t think breaking the law is cool so I will stay within the bounds of my FCC licenses

First off what license? ULS shows no granted license on your FRN, just some pending ones. Your website also alludes to you running a TRS using a control channel of 151.625. I am sure you know that this is QUITE illegal as that is an IG not capable of being licensed as an FB2.

I wont even get into you trying to use a Part 73 justification for a Part 90 license, nor the fact that no coordination was done. I guess this is all moot as they will get rejected anyway.

Your license applications will unquestionably be dismissed within the next 45-60 days. Mark my words. They have glaring errors. Missing formation, no frequency coordination, improper channel loading numbers, missing MOs, and your fee waiver justification is inappropriate and will thusly be denied.

Just wait.

Additionally, your website alludes to you using NTIA and railroad frequencies for your system. Might want to do a little more careful research on your "radio system" before posting things like that online, even though I'm sure this radio system of yours is something that exists only in your mind.

I do have a question for you though, Mr. Mason. May I ask your age?
