• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

In reading Motorola's description of the XTS2500's system config options, it reads as follows:

System Configurations - The customer can select one of the following with the XTS 2500: ASTRO 25 Digital Trunking with Mutual Aid, or ASTRO Analog and Digital Trunking with Mutual Aid, ASTRO Conventional.

Does this imply that the radio can ONLY support one of those options at a time? In other words, is it possible to program into the radio a P25 trunking system, as well as conventional analog channels? I can only imagine that a high-end radio such as this should support all types of systems at once. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Also, will the M/A-Com P25ip systems support this radio?

Don't know about the 2500, but my XTS 5000 supports both Analog and Digital systems. Our county dispatches on analog 800 but our city, state police, and others use digital 800. I use one radio for both.

The radio will do analog conventional right out of the box. You have to order the other "digital and/or trunking options" in order to do all or some of the features.

Again it all depends on how it is ordered.

You will get analog with the radio but the P25 will be extra as the others have posted. You can however buy just the basic radio now and pay to have it Flash upgraded at a later date. Its a fairly straight forward process that any Motorola shop can do for you in less than 30 min.

You said that you want to put it on a P25 trunking system though and that would be a BIG NO NO unless you have permission from the system operations manager. They can and will send your pricy radio a "remote stun" command that will make it into a several thousand dollar brick. On a P25 trunked radio system it is VERY easy to find and kill illegally programed radios. You will just have to trust me on that one.
