• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

That radio that you posted will not work as it's VHF rather than UHF.

Is there any reason as to why you aren't just purchasing a scanner?

i have a scanner pro-106 and its good but a uniden digital scanner seems to get better reviews so i was thinking between a uniden and the real thing.

No - you can not just program any xts2500 radio for a motorola smart zone trunk system.

It requires the correct cps software, cable and system programing key. Without
all three of those items you can pretty much forget that idea.

OK, first-off, the LAPD is NOT a trunked system. They are P25 conventional & you would need a radio that capable of the R2 UHF split for 450MHz-512MHz.

Second, as a conventional system, he could program the channels to be TX-inhibited by choosing the 'Receive Only' option in the personality settings for that channel (you would get an error tone if you touched the PTT).

Please try and keep the facts straight, even if you are trying to talk the OP out of doing what he wants to do...

yes scott - you are correct. they do have a trunk system but apparently its just used for mun services
and its 800 edacs not a 500 moto sz like i thought, and i was simply trying to advise him of certain pitfalls rather than seeing him go into overload like so many do.

I was in LA a few weeks ago & stayed at a hotel near LAX. I didn't have a lot of spare time, but I figured since I was near the airport, I'd listen to the LAPD airport freq on my Icom T-90. I think the freq was 460.525. The radio worked great, & I made sure the radio was set to simplex, so it would not xmit on the input freq & no PL set. This way no accidents. GARY N4KVE

no, its the incorrect bandsplit.. you need a 450-520 radio. If you look at the 4th character in the model number, you are looking for an S, not an R.

you also need at minimum the first digit in the flashcode to be an ODD number, denoting astro digital voice.

you would also need to get Astro Portable CPS, they are up to version 5.03 and currently runs in the 300ish range.. price may vary depending on various factors and is only legally available for purchase from Motorola.

Is about 300 as stated earler. And I have had no problems ordering CPS. Just get a MOL account http://businessonline.motorola.com go in your account, accept the software agreement, then you can order it. Takes about two days for your account to get activated.

Go to Resoruce Center, then Software Support, then under software license it should have General Software License Agreement. Click it, read it, and agree to it. then you have access to buy CPS. Astro 25 CPS is part number RVN4181AK List price is $265
