• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Ahhh the ole bastard child XTS3500. Required a special kind of RSS to run, and could not run on CPS. Probably LONG since gone from Motorola at this point.

From what I remember, they were only UHF, model 1 or 3. No model 2 ever existed. Back in the day before the 5000 came out, everyone wanted one of these. Until they found out about the special RSS required, and how finicky they all were, they were about as hated as the Saber SI.

Available in VHF as well and there was nothing really special about the RSS. It was just a different version much like most Motorola radios require their own version of RSS.

Programmed just like any other Jedi product so nothing finicky about them.

We had a few dozen in VHF, the receive sensitivity was horrible. You would be standing next to someone with a King portable and they would be hearing traffic and you nothing. We tried transferring them to another location and they laughed at us.

the RSS is DOS based and is pretty much identical to use like MT2000 RSS I have an original copy of it on a 3.5 floppy. I had a VHF for years and it was a great radio. The sensitivity was fine when aligned properly

I'm trying to run it in DOS Box and when I do that it says Illegal command do you know what the problem could be?

Dos on a usb flash drive works fine. Something like this. How to Create a Bootable DOS USB Drive

I use an old cf18 for all my old dos stuff. Some of that older moto software really doesn't like newer faster processors. I've had some issues even using a cf19.

Some radios can be destroyed if you use a newer PC with a faster processor. The safest way is an old pre-Pentium laptop booting from a conventional HD or floppy.
