Here's a quick communications test to run if indeed you are unable to read or write to your radio from the CPS program.
Connect your programming cable, power on the radio, then open your PC's Device Manager. Look for "Modems". Expand this catagory
to to determine if your radio enumerates. IE: "Motorola XTS 5000 Radio" will appear. If found, select this device and click on the
Modem Tab to reveal the assigned communications port.
Using a communications program such as Tera Term or PuTTY, open a terminal session to the communications port discovered
in the above step. Type "AT&V" without the quotes then tap the Enter key. The radio should return the same approximate text as
is shown below that will confirm if communications with the radio is alive.
Note: There is no echo from the radio, so you'll not see the characters as you type. The default communicaitons parameters
are normally 9600 N-8-1.
