• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I could be any number of things. However, I've seen a similar problem crop up when programming the radio using USB programming cable
and where there was a brief interruption of the data during a write operation. Try loading (writing) that last known good codeplug to the
radio. If this is successful, then perform a read operation to see if this clears the fault.

Here's a quick communications test to run if indeed you are unable to read or write to your radio from the CPS program.

Connect your programming cable, power on the radio, then open your PC's Device Manager. Look for "Modems". Expand this catagory
to to determine if your radio enumerates. IE: "Motorola XTS 5000 Radio" will appear. If found, select this device and click on the
Modem Tab to reveal the assigned communications port.

Using a communications program such as Tera Term or PuTTY, open a terminal session to the communications port discovered
in the above step. Type "AT&V" without the quotes then tap the Enter key. The radio should return the same approximate text as
is shown below that will confirm if communications with the radio is alive.

Note: There is no echo from the radio, so you'll not see the characters as you type. The default communicaitons parameters
are normally 9600 N-8-1.

CARRIER:9600

PROTOCOL:ALT

COMPRESSION:NONE

FLOW:K3

WV304:192.168.128.1

RADIO:XTS 5000

MODEL:H18KEH9PW7AN

SERIAL:REDACTED

PORT:SIDE CONNECTOR AS USB

SECURE:R050715

CPS:HARDWARE FLOW CONTROL

OK

Thanks, was a dodgy connecter - fixed it.
I've had that error 24 a few times before in my collection of radios. some reprogrammed many times a week/month doing experiments sometimes it just pops an error after many good times and a wipe of the connector and reconnecting the cable it works again, maybe a stuck pin, dirty contact etc
