Hi guys,

Have a new Yaesu 8800 in my truck. Runs fine, hitting repeaters no problem. One issue I can't figure out, though...

When I use the mic to transmit, when I key up, it sounds like my radio is sending out a single DTMF tone. Looked through all the options, menus, and the ops manual...Can't figure it out. Any clues?

Thanks!

Yes, the WIRES function is enabled.

Why does my radio issue a short "beep" before each transmission? You have probably inadvertently activated the WIRES function. WIRES is described on page 50 of the manual. To deactivate this, momentarily press the left VOL knob.

If you don't use the Internet Linking system, then the WIRES tone can be eliminated by doing the following:
-Select INET (#17) from the set menu and then "Int Mem".
-Save setting and exit the set menu
As long as there aren't any tones programmed into the Internet Link System, then even if the WIRES button is pushed (so very easy to do), no tone will be transmitted.
