20210212_110840.jpgHaven't done much SWL lately but since the weather is nice in Arizona I dug my Yaesu FT-891 out and went to the battery store and bought a sealed lead acid battery. It's a lot quieter running it off the battery than it is with it hooked up to the 12v power supply. Hooked up to my Wellbrook sitting on the tripod and enjoying the day. I'm not a ham, I just bought the 891 for receiving since it is a relatively affordable radio with a nice receiver.20210212_110850.jpg

Nice setup. I used to run a lot of my equipment off one of those rechargeable emergency start batteries. Basically a lead-acid battery sealed in a case with charging circuitry built in. One eight-hour charge would run all the gear for a week or more. Nice and quiet.

I'm jealous of your weather. The lawn has been buried under a foot of snow for weeks and we're not likely to get out of single digit temperature-wise this weekend.

Yeah, we're in the mid 70's. I drive a truck for a living and I can't stand snow. It's pretty for a minute and after that I want it to go away... Lol

Nice setup... I'd like to be doing that, but it's 34 below zero F outside right now.. Would definitely appreciate a bit of your heat :)

How long do you get out of the battery?

Thanks. I don't know how long it will last yet because that was my first time using it.

Looks _very_ nice compared to the cold and dark Swedish winter around here hehe :)

Question about the tripod: it looks like an ordinary camera tripod, how did you "connect" the antenna to it? Thinking about doing something similar for a portable set up.
