Hello everyone I have been monitoring the York County Trs system for about a year now. I have a Uniden 996p2 scanner that picks up the simulcast perfectly. However I have not been able to monitor the Penn State York campus police talkgroup tgid 51136. I don't believe it is encrypted. Has anyone had any success monitoring it?

First question I would ask: Is the talkgroup carried across all 4 simulcasts or is affiliation exclusive only to the simulcast area where the campus resides? I'd suggest tuning to the talkgroup via channel hold (Press Hold, key in 51136 and press Hold again) Stay on that talkgroup for a bit & keep a close eye on the screen. If you hear a brief audio burst and see ENC flash up on the screen that will tell you if encryption is now in place and in that event the database should be updated stating so. Not sure how busy the talkgroup is but you can certainly utilize history logging software like Proscan so you can set it, forget it and have it log traffic on the TGID

with the 996p2 you would have to program the site to a specific favorite list and just monitor that site only. It does not support site hold like the 536 or sds200.

The BCD996P2 does not have favorites lists, only systems and groups. Assign a different system quick key to each of the 4 York County sites and you will be able to easily select any site or sites.

I put an SDS100 in channel hold on this TG for 6 hours yesterday afternoon. It was scanning thru all 4 sites but I don’t receive north and central real well from home. I had it recording to ProScan and found no activity. 🤷‍♂️

I guess it's not in use but 🤷‍♀️. Thanks for trying.

The last time stamp for it in Broadcastify Calls is 2023-09-03T09:22:57-05:00.
Depending on what the node owner is monitoring, it might not always pop up there when used, but this shows it's likely been used inthe past...unless the logged use was just a bad data decode (which happens).

It’s highly likely that they have been provisioned a talk group on the system but simply don’t use it. The campus is very small. They may use a simplex channel or even phones.

A few other conventional possibilities to try:
Thanks for the info just curious where did you find these? I'm assuming these are FM or FMN. How do you know what frequency to enter since there is none on the page?

The database now shows that Penn State TGID 51136 is encrypted:
51136c7c0TEPD55 Penn StPenn State - YorkLaw Talk
Codorus and Pinchot State Parks are now also encrypted.

I'll program these into both of my scanners and see what happens. If they don't work would it be worth it to use close call if I'm near the campus?

Worth a shot but you need to be very close to get a hit. May not work if they're using DMR though since there are well documented issues with close call & DMR simplex
