I picked up a Yupiteru MVT-7100 for cheap at an estate sale but it does not receive any signals on any bands. It does power up and all features & buttons work but picks up nothing at all not even local radio stations on WFM. Being a good with electronics I opened it up figuring maybe the BNC was busted internally but all is intact and the circuit boards all look good. I know its an old dog but it was one of the best scanners on the market in its time. Anyone have ideas why its not receiving any signals ? Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if this will help but the 7100 has connectors on each of the three boards. Unplug and clean each connector with contact spray. I had a weird issue and that cleared it up. Additionally, you might comb YouTube for 7100 or 7000 repair videos. I know there are several out there.

Tried that still no luck. At a closer look, it appears someone has changed the BNC at some point.

Do you mean the BNC connector connected to the 7100 circuit board? Might be worth a reflow of the solder joints? Before you do, you might want to place the 7100 close to something that emits a low RF power (like a PC), see if it picks up any signals - at close range it shouldnt need an antenna.

Find something that transmits like a CB, FRS or ham radio and see if the 7100 will pick it up at close range. If it does you might only have an antenna connector problem and if it doesn't pick up at close range it may need a professional to diagnose.

Yes the BNC soldered to the board. And I did try a 5 watt GMRS radio within 2 feet and I do get a signal meter reading on the Yupiteru but on all frequencies, over 2 feet no signal. When I tune to the specific GMRS frequency I was transmitting on I get the same signal meter reading at close range but no voice so I thing my GMRS radio was just overloading the Yupiteru

Unfortunately I think its service manual and test bench time. Or I need a battery cover for mine if you want to part it out.
