• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm currently having an issue with two older 4010 consoles, where it takes a fairly loud RX audio signal to unmute the console speakers. It's causing lower volume radio traffic to never unmute and traffic to be missed. This is on a simple 2-wire tone-remote system. The local radio shop has attempted to correct the issue by cranking the 2-wire RX audio level way up into compression, however the issue persists. It's like there is a threshold to keep the speakers from unmutimg on any kind of line noise, and the threshold is set far too high.

Looking through the service manual, there is almost no mention of such a feature/setting. The only thing mentioned is a Channel VOX hang time, used to control patch TX timing and the call LED. This hang time is software adjustible, however there is no mention of how to adjust any actual VOX threshold.

Anybody ever came across this problem or have a fix?

While that is a contributing factor to this problem, it is not the only issue. Easily copyable traffic on a standalone radio is not unmuting on the consoles. Having heard other 4010 consoles that will unmute on a sound as quiet as repeater hangtime, this leads me to believe there is an adjustment for the muted audio threshold somewhere that is set much too high.

Just get away from VOX and all your troubles are gone. You can turn the stand alone volume up as it does not use VOX. Good luck as this is the best option to fix your problems.

I have seen no mention of a "stand alone volume" in any Zetron documentation, nor any apparent way to enable/disable this VOX or minimum audio threshold that is causing the problem. Care to elaborate?

Google and read the manual. Stand alone Volume refers to the Stand alone radio you mentioned. Zetron only offers tech support for dealers that go to the Zetron Factory Tech School. You need to call a dealer to fix these problems.

Thanks for the link, however that's the same manual I referenced in post #1. As I said, it seems to contain no information on this feature or setting.

If your console has been setup with the tools listed in the manual to the specifications in the setup instructions then you need to teach your users in the field to speakup and talk clear. If you do not work at a radio shop then you need to call a Zetron Dealer. If this is a Dispatch Center you can cause the system to become unstable and run the chance of being held accountable for missed calls or damage.
