I just got my new scanner up and running and I have set it up. I have all the frequencies I desire except Marine City Fire Department and Algonac Fire Department. I know Marine City runs at 800 something mhz but I have no clue beyond that. Anyone have any idea what they could be?

Thanks for your time.

I was assuming you were using a P25 digital scanner, not analog? What scanner do you have?

MPSCS that krokus mentioned stands for Michigan Pubic Safety Communications System. It is APCO P25 Phase 1 digital system. The information for programming can be found here:

You need a digital scanner in order to receive anything listed there. You program the frequency of the system you want to monitor and then the TG's (Talk Groups) that you want to listen to. It's a little more complicated than the days of analog only.

You have to let us know what model # you have we cant be much help otherwise. If you paid less than oh $150 new, its not digital. Which I think that is what you have. If so, send it back! You mention frequencies only. If its say 125AT, 365crs, 355, 15x .... send it back!
Many people will look at prices and say $100 or $300 of course people would go $100 but the $100 model doesnt do digital.

Digital radios brand new are currently the cheapest not recommended since Macomb is simulcast are whistlers around $240, while the recommended Unidens are around $370+
Uniden model #’s that are digital, prices lowest to highest:
996P2, 325P2, 436HP, Home Patrol2, 536HP, SDS 100, SDS 200

Dont get the whistlers since your in a strong simulcast area, Multiple towers broadcasting the same frequencies and talkgroups, they don't normally work well there. Where as the Unidens perform better.
See WS1040/WS1065 vs Simulcast 800 <-- This is from Macomb, the video was made before the SDS models from Uniden became available. A fire pager was the answer then but they are not scanners as in the video he can only listen to some of the talkgroups at a time and not all like on a scanner and cost the same as the SDS'. Disregard message 7 there as whistler decided not to do so.

Subsequent replies will say no doubt to get an SDS model, while that is true they will work near flawlessly, but they can break the budget!

You can look up on youtube the model number then programming for many how-to's there.

nvanw27; Yes. My department Clay Township FD (Ira township runs on the same frequency so you pick them up too) runs off of frequency 154.815 for both our mainland and Harsens Island stations.

What other departments still use vhf?

This is a "STATE WIDE" VHF frequency you might want to program and see what the activity is like.
