Hey guys. So we are in the process of moving. Cable cut our internet a week before supposed to so feed is dead. Unrelated. Anyway. The new house used to be an office for the fire watchtower. The house has this antenna on it. Just wondering if this is something I might be able to use for h scanner feed? No clue if it's a tv antenna or what and hoping you can help. Cheers!

1. Put that antenna and mount hardware into the parts bin.
2. Leave that gray J mount on the roof, add five or 10 feet of mast and put a discone on top.
3. Roll out some LMR-400 to the discone, or maybe use the coaxial cable already there.

That's kinda what I figured. I already have a great antenna. Just getting it outside and up a tad will make a HUGE difference on the feed.

That's a TV antenna, it's directional, and it's horizontally polarized.

LMR stuff you want to listen to is vertically polarized in most cases.
The directional nature to it could work in your favor if the stuff you wanted to listen to was in one specific direction.

But, overall, what vagrant said. Toss it, put up an appropriate antenna and be done with it.

Roll the vertical TV antenna over 90-degrees and see what it hears. It is 300 ohm feed, though, so you will need a balun to bring it down to 75-50-ish ohms for scanner use. Try it! It won't blow up your scanner.

I think that's an RCA ANT751E TV Antenna. I have 2 of 'em and they're excellent. It includes a 75-ohm matching transformer.

But I would have reservations about attaching a 10-foot mast with antenna(s) on top to the J-mount. The weight and wind load with no guy or 2nd attachment bracket (like with a push-up pole) would concern me.
