• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all:

I was wondering if anyone can help me with my situation. I just bought a Yaesu FT-8800 2m/70cm mobile and am going to install it to replace my Icom IC-2200H in my truck. I'm planning on mounting the control head at the dash and the main body under the back seat (my truck is a 4 door). My question is....Is there a good way to run all my wires and cables from the passenger compartment to the engine compartment.

For my 2200H, I ran all the wires out the drivers door and into the engine compartment along the inside of the fender. I owned a 03 F150 and when I was an Asst. Fire Chief, I installed my fire mobile and by taking off the passenger side kicker panel, there was a nice hole to run the wires/cables through and just thought I would ask if anyone knew if the Silverado had the same kind of set up, before I remove the panel and other trim for nothing. Thanks.

I have yet to see a late model (1985-present) without a plethora of removable rubber bulkhead plugs in the firewall. Sometimes they do require some looking before you can see them... be prepared to do some crawling around with a flashlight, maybe even temporarily detach the footwell carpeting from the firewall, and I'm sure you'll find several very suitable feed-through points.

What I have done on my older pickup is to take a 3/4 hole saw the same as for drilling antenna holes in the body and drill such hole through the fire wall. When the hole is there then take a rubber 3/4 hole plug and put in the hole and then you can put a cut into the plug and run the cables through to the battery etc. As key2 indicates there should be available holes but if not try my example works well keeps dirt etc out but allows fires to be fed through the firewall.

on the GM, check behind the radiator overflow tank on the passenger side or just above the brake on the driver side. There should be a plug on both sides. Some of the 4 doors also have a rubber plug under the passenger seat floor.

On 99-07 classic GM trucks, there is a factory dimple (centerpunch) located on the firewall, facing the engine side, near the 3-o'clock position of the brake booster. You can drill thru that (after checking to see if anything is in the way!) towards the passenger compartment, and protect your wires with an appropriate grommet.
