Hi all, I know the 796D is a very old scanner. Just dug it out of storage to mess with and remembered its deaf on just about everything unless its really close.

I have a hotspot running WPSD and its running P25. My 396t, 325p2 and 996p2 can all handle decoding p25 on the ham frequency I chose for it. My question is, is the 796D locked to P25 on the public safety bands or not able to handle a single channel non trunking frequency??
It just sits there and makes the digital noise in analog mode and doesn't switch like the others do.

Thanks in advance!
I have a 796D that had been sitting in the ole shack closet for around 15 years. I yanked it out and updated the grossly outdated firmware to 3.60 with an old Dell Win/XP PC I keep around for exactly these occasions. It's humming right along with plenty of local Cincy and Indiana 800MHz action. For whatever reason, it seems to do a little better with Phase 1 sound-wise than my SDS200 but regardless, glad to see it still kicks pretty good for an old Grand Daddy digital.
