I am new to SW radio besides a little knowledge ive learned over the years...and most of that I havent remembered! My interest is listening only, mainly marine,aviation,mil,pirate,etc... I undertand most of these are SSB. As far as equipment goes its minimal. I basiclly bought what I could locally Grundig S450DLX. However I also ordred the TGB37 adapter after realizing every SW radio doesnt have SSB capabilities. The adapter works and ive spent hours just tuning. Tons of fun!! I am currently looking for some better used equipment and hope to be up and running by summer.

My main reason for posting these besides a intro is trying to get info on SDR. I recently found and downloaded the SDR-Radio program and Im in the expoloration stage. However I am still confused even after researching. What type of applications use SDR. Military or utilities? I do no have any hardware hooked up to my laptop and I am just using the remote servers on the SDR-Radio site. I have picked up a few things but Im at such a entry level I really cant clear any of the signals up. So after all that my question is what should I expect from SDR remote listening?

Thanks for your time and I have really enjoyed this site. Seems like everyone is really helpful and friendly!

SDR is a radio type. It heats what any other SW radio will hear.
