WS1065: ws1065 unable to program or update

hello I am new to the scanner world after 20 plus years hiatus. Our county scanner must have left the area as its no longer a feed anywhere so i wanted to set one up. bought a ws1065 off marketplace it worked put was programed for 3 counties away. It didn't come with a PC /IF cord so had to purchase one off amazon as Whistler was out of stock. I was playing around waiting for the new cord and was able to search and get a lot of local frequencies. Started a spreadsheet so I could track and get all the traffic possible.

I got the cord in its a proliflic pl2303gs and appears to be working fine.

When I tried to start programming I must have did something the wrong order. I held down the program button and turned the scanner on now I cant get anything to work. the screen says

uP Boot VerF1.5
uP App Ver: NONE
CPU SW Upgrade
Wait for PC/IF

I have tried leaving unplugged over night. holding prog button and turning on again. Prog + Func + F3.
nothing is working, did I just fry my scanner? Is there anyone near Wilmington NC that can help?

Your scanner is waiting firmware, as somehow to firmware was deleted from the radio.

Before reprogramming it with your local frequencies you need to reinstall the firmware.

All I can see on a search for that cable is a usb-serial adapter cable. Unknown offhand how that even could work on a whistler as there's no serial or usb ports, if you tried it, could have been the cause for this dilemma. You need this one,

Third party cable available. One other one, but says not for firmware. If somehow you got that cable to work, it may not be able to do firmware updates? Unknown why a programming cable wouldn't work for firmware.
If you used firmware for the Pro 197 on the 1065, that would cause the issue it has, only use what I left in the reply above.

If you can find the real whistler cable or a radio shack cable off of ebay would be the better and safe route.

yes when I try the whistler update it says no data from the scanner. start over at step 1.

Yes I seen this BUT am unable to get to the opening menu. It only pops up With the waiting for PC/IF and I tried the 0 1 options with nothing happening.

Anyone have a REAL cable they want to send me. Whistler is sold out. That was the first place I looked.

There are few cables available on Ebay. Bluemax49ers is goto for cables to program radios and this where I purchase all my Kenwood cables from.

Don't use the adapter on the end on the cable to program your scanner.

uP App Ver: NONE

Your scanner has lost its CPU firmware. Download this updater: CPU Updater for WS1065 Connect your computer to the PC/IF port on the scanner. Do not use the stereo to mono adapter. The scanner requires a stereo plug. Run the downloaded app to restore the firmware to the scanner. Do not worry that the updater says WS1040. The WS1040 and WS1065 use the same firmware.
