I have been listening to 131.950 AM of and on for a long time in Fort Erie Ont. Canada, and all I ever hear on this frequency is the sound like someone is dialing a push button phone, any one know what this frequencies is being used for.

131.95 is used in a lot of places in the US by American Airlines' regional carriers like American Eagle. I don't know if they operate in Canada.

I don't know exactly how it works but there are base stations at airports and DTMF allows them to call up certain dispatchers or operators. Similar to what some railroads do. I think somebody posted a thread about it years ago.

I am unable to find any clues in FCC licenses that would point to a high altitude en-route network. Below are all of the FCC lics for 131.95 in the US states of NY, PA, OH, VT, & NH. There are no control points, or high altitude operating code, and all have 10 watts of output power.

The limitation of this data is the quality of the data submitted to the FCC by ASRI and this does not cover any Canadian licenses.
