I know this frequency is used by a few Fire Departments in Monmouth County along with Cranford Public Works Dept. However, I've been hearing what sounds like school security and/or custodians using this frequency primarily in the Kenilworth area. It would come in very weak (sounds like simplex), but once I get out of Kenilworth, the signal fades. I'm thinking that one of the schools in Kenilworth use this frequency, although not licensed for it. Can anyone confirm hearing something similiar in the Union County area?

I don't know where you get the idea you're hearing a school, the only thing listed for Union County in the FCC ULS database is Cranford DPW. If you think it's an unlicensed school, Brearley (if I spelt it right) at the Cranford/Westfield end of Boulevard is a likely candidate. That's easily checked using a tiny bit of wire for an antenna or none at all if you're close enough.

Do I have to tell you to be careful while snooping around a school? Might be a good idea to keep another radio locked to the KPD frequency unless you want to find out about the castle on the side of the car. (;->)

To be honest, I can only pick it them up when I'm on the Blvd. in Kenilworth. I can't hear it Cranford. This means that it possibly could be Harding School also. That actually would be the CLOSEST school I believe. It's definitely at school in Kenilworth though.
