Had a CloseCall hit on 155.850 (PL 156.7) from the White Tanks this morning. Unfortunately I did not hear any other traffic on it after.

According to the FCC database (KFZ872) it is listed as a repeater there with an unknown input for law enforcement purposes. It is listed for Corrections in a couple other licenses so I suspect it is for this too.

If anyone can verify the use and input we can get it added to the database.

I've been hearing a lot of mic clicks since I started listening two hours ago, and just heard a Morse Code ID at 6pm. No voice comms, though.

I have had it on a scanner for the last couple days and have heard the same day and night. I have also heard a more distant repeater with a PL of 110.9 come thru occasionally.

I did a little research and there is an associated callsign that has 3 repeaters all on 155.850 at various facilities (A juvenile facility in north Phoenix, the state capitol and South Mountain) that shows an input of 154.845. I suspect that is the input for this repeater as well.

Still have no idea what it's use is supposed to be.

I know both are active for juvenile corrections. 155.580 has been in use for decades. No one has come across 155.580 until now. I've had this in my radio for ever. Downtown can be covered by VHF simplex instead of using South Mt.
With AZWINS & Maricopa County Phase II, the VHF use would only be needed for in prison ops. All outside ops are done on either of the two above systems.

As a followup I have had 155.850 (Note: Not 155.580!) in a radio for the last couple weeks and have heard no real traffic, only the CWID and the occasional quick dead key-ups. I do still occasionally hear either weak voice or dead-key on PL 110.9 but the White Tanks is obviously 156.7.

I am going to assume at this point that the 110.9 repeater is at a facility someplace and that the White Tanks is/was probably intended for wide-area coverage.

Correct that it WAS for wide area usage. Now it's a backup to the trunked systems. Systems are so reliable, 155.580 will most likely never have usage again.

I wonder why so many dead keys are being heard on this. I suspect there might be a noisy line on a satellite receiver, control station or console line someplace.
