LoJack AVL.... if you see some police cruisers with four Hi band ants on the roof cruising around.. They would be homing on the tones. LoJack is the least expensive, and oldest of the AVL systems. Also available is one based on GPS, and the Teletouch/Teletrack 900 MHz AVL systems. Teletrack is supposed to have one so small you can put it on a person's belt buckle and track em almost anywhere.

From my understanding the most common LoJack frequency is 173.025 MHz, however, it is possible they use 173.215 as well??

LoJack is on 173.075 and doesn't have a dead carrier.
The 173.2 - 173.4 range is mainly used for telemetry and SCADA.
That is what you are probably hearing.

In addition, Lojack uses a 1200bps data burst and not a tone setup. It esstentially sounds like MDC1200.

You're right, it sounds like MDC-1200. I once did a search and found a frequency with constant MDC-1200, now I can identify it as LoJack.
