Hi everyone,
I am new to Scanning and I am trying unsuccessfully to get my new Pro-163 to talk to the Computer.

The 20-047 Drivers will not install on Windows 7. With the CD loaded as soon as I plug the cable in to the PC it starts loading whatever Windows 7 thinks it wants. It gives me no chance to select the drivers on the CD. I have tried to force Win 7 to accept the drivers by Start > Rt Click Computer > Manage >Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT) > USB Serial Port (COM4) > Driver. I have tried to Uninstall the Driver Win 7 installed and then installing the 20-047 Drivers but no matter what I try I cannot over ride Win 7.

Try downloading the updated driver install package from the FTDI web site at http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/CDM/CDM20600.exe and see if that helps. Those are the drivers I'm using on my Windows 7 64 bit machine.

20-047 Drivers Not Loading

Mike,

The drivers on the CD might be good. I don't know because I cannot get Win7 to try and load them. Win7 wants to load its own drivers. So I am having the same problem with the driver you recommend.

20-4047 drivers not installing on Win7

Mike,

I downloaded and ran the .exe file and Win7 still does not see any other drivers than their own.

20-047 Drivers will not install in Win7

I tried to install the new CDM20600.exe and it appeared to install but the new driver does not appear on the list of drivers for that or any other USB port. The 20-047 device shows up under Devices and Printers but only the Win 7 drivers are visible in the USB Port.

I downloaded and printed the Application Note AN_119 FTDI Drivers Installation Guide for Windows 7 and followed the step by step instructions but I never could get to where I saw "Other Devices" no matter which way I went into the Device Manager.

Problem Solved.

It turns out that Radio Shack states in its Addendum that the 3-inch adapter cable included with the 20-047 is used with most new Radio Shack Scanners. Not True. I removed the 3-inch adapter and "Wala" I was able to download the pre-loaded frequencies from the Pro-163 to the computer.

Works on a Mac, too

Thanks for the info about the FTDI drivers. I just installed the VCP driver for Mac OS X, and I can now read and write to my Pro-97 from Win97 run inside of Parallels Desktop on my Macbook Pro. The address seems to have changed:

Virtual COM Port Drivers

All I had to do was configure the virtual serial port inside of Parallels so that Com1 points at /dev/cu.usbserial-GRE-0412

Without the driver though, this doesn't work. Thanks again.
