One of the advantages (or disadvantages) of working fire over the summer several hundred miles from home, and almost never having passengers, is the ability to put in more crap then i probably should have,
Current summer/fire configuration:
Radio 1: TK-790 with advanced remote control head, Pretty much going to be a glorified zone scanner, but equipped with all VHF fire frequencies for my area and assignments.
Radio 2: Uniden Bearcat BC15x. Currently scans the same, plus local fire toneout frequencies. Getting replaced very soon with a HP536, since the kenwood will scan the VHF, and everything important i need to listen to is P25 (or provoice back home)
Radio 3: CB. Because i've put 8000 miles on the truck since the start of may, i keep a CB in here over the summer to keep an ear on highway conditions when i'm in the middle of nowhere.
Radio 4: APX4000 in a vehicle charger. Pretty much worthless, because work rarely uses 800, and only half the talkgroups i need to monitor in this area are actually programmed.
Radio 5: Fire handheld. XTS5000 in a XTVA. Usually on the primary repeater for the area that i'm in. This is the one that i'd likely transmit on. I may upgrade it to a HHCH and make it more functional, but with most agency traffic on VHF and really good repeater coverage, this works really well.
Also, ipad mini for navigation, CAD, and streaming music.
There is a wilson 4G multi user booster in there as well.
