Guys and gals, I need some advice. I have a 996xt with RH-96 and remote speaker. I just bought this awesome jeep the other day and need advice for the best mounting options. Has anyone done a Jeep like this in the past?

If your interior is like the one below. I would place the RH above the RVM and put the scanner in the glovebox.

Thats what I figured. I already had the base in the GB. I didnt think about the extra space above the VM though, thanks for the input. Looks easy too. Pictures to follow.

I dont know where to go with the antenna. its a disc magmount. Not a lot of metalic surface. Might have to buy a new one.

Looking good! The RH-96 fits in there perfectly. I'm not familiar with your vehicle so I'll let someone that is come up with the antenna mount suggestion. Thanks for sharing with us.

It really does fit nicely. Out of the way but accessible. The 996XT is almost the right size for the glovebox, but need to find another place for it. Might go under a seat. Next project is the antenna and some low profile lights. Not going crazy like I did with my trailblazer.

I moved the 996XT to under the passenger seat. Though it did fit in the GB, it was not secure and kept knocking the remote cable out. It is now under the seat with velcro strips. seems to be holding up pretty well. I just ordered a through-the-glass antenna from scannermaster. low profile and requires no holes, obviously. When she gets more miles on her, I will look into something a little bigger.

You don't have to go far for low pro lighting,

Low profile...

...but will that antenna satisfy the multi-band features of that scanner? Most posts I've read on here regarding T-T-G antennas seem negative, but everyone has their own opinions, and you'll form your own when you install and begin scanning with it. Which antenna are you getting, if I might ask?

I have a 2010 Unlimited Sahara hard top. I use a mag mount in the very back driver's side corner. I pulled a bit of the carpet back and stuck it to the metal there. It works well since it has a bit of a ground plane and it away from anything metal. The hard top fiberglass doesn't effect the signal at all.

I use a double stacked (dual pig tail coil) elevated 800 MHz on the NMO mag mount base. It provides excellent 800 reception but is also long enough to work well down through the Vhf range.

Good idea! Prevents theft, and covert at the same time... ;)

15-540721 Through-The-Glass Mobile Antenna with BNC from ScannerMaster. It shipped today, was pretty cheap but if that doesnt work i will try the rear driver side.

I've sen where guys have taken a antenna window mount and just zip tied it to the roll bar. It didn't look trashy. Said he got decent with the top on and of course better with it off.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I think the solution is to magmount in the rear. the cable run is easy and is out of the way. Once the TTG arrives I will compare. Now to start window shopping for lights.

What problems did you have with the 996 in the glove box? I am looking to upgrade to a 996 and I want to mount it in the glove box of my 2013 Wrangler. Do you have any pics?

I didnt find it was secure enough. Its a heavy unit. The box also wasnt deep enough to allow the antenna cable, power, speaker and remote cable. Unless you are going to mount a bracket inside the glovebox, I dont recommend it.
