Hey, they were **** hot in 2004 when that them there 250 horses debuted against them small time pre-200 hp econoboxes.

Speed had not much to do with it, it was always the bean counters, first it is fuel costs, then maintenance costs then combined with reliability and longevity that matters. Almost all the PDs in my area dumped the first gen chargers as they were too much of a hassle

I always thought if they gave the option for 3.73's in the vic in the 2000's with maybe combined with a bit more aggressive tune, they were the same engines as the mustang and detuned for reliability of being beat to **** by patrol cops, they could have competed a bit better with the charger, not like they didn't have the vic already sold because they were well liked, but Ford was already tired of the vic by then, really ready to cancel it by 2008 as they did with retail versions. The vic lasted a few years longer than it should have but still came out above everything else because of its legendary reliability
Didn’t the CV engines have different heads than the Mustangs? I thought they only shared the same block.

Powertrain was reliable but the body was complete junk.

After the early 2000's, the 2001+ had the PI heads and then 2004+ had all the upgrades, it was the same the police package and mustang 2v automatics were the same powertrain, the 4.6 2V and upgraded 4R75 and 11.25 torque converter. what changed in 2007 or so, was the mustangs went to 3 valve, the vics stayed the same old 2 valve design. The vic was detuned for longevity, with a mustang high output tune it could squeeze that extra 10-15hp out of it...... I don't know anything on the body designs, except the mustang was a unibody and the vic was a 4 door full frame vehicle. I did put Monroe Magnum shocks with helper springs on my vic, sure made it better. It drives likes a tank, sure isn't a lightweght sports car thats for sure
