2019 NC State Fair Monitoring Guide

It's time again for the NC State Fair! Opening day is THURSDAY, October 17th, less than 3 weeks away, move in starts that Monday.

NOTE: To monitor the NCSHP Training Center or West Raleigh VIPER Site during the NC State Fair you must have a digital scanner capable of following 700Mhz Sites!!!

For those with scanners the following digital Statewide Event talkgroups on VIPER have been used the past two years for NC State Fair traffic:

Statewide Events Echo 1 (TG 51971)= LE Interior Ops
Statewide Events Echo 2 (TG 51972)= EMS/Fire Ops
Statewide Events Echo 3 (TG 51973)= Dorton Arena
Statewide Events Echo 4 (TG 51974)= SHP Traffic Posts
Statewide Events Foxtrot 1 (TG 51975)= Special Ops
**NOTE: In the first few days of the fair I'll be monitoring radio traffic and will modify/edit this list as needed or if someone shares an updated TG list with me.

And on the Wake County System the following will be used:
Wake PS Event 6A (Analog TG 26832) = Fairgrounds staff/Non-Sworn personnel

I will be hosting the State Fair Special Events Feed on Broadcastify with the above talkgroups. I'm also adding Dept of Agriculture (51601-51608) and State Fire Marshall's (52046-52050) Viper talkgroups, as well as the old Fairgrounds Admin/Main/Maint Wake Trunked System talkgroups (32, 48, and 64) though I haven't heard them used in a while.

NC Dept of Labor Ride Inspectors have previously been monitored using the callsign ROBERT-IDA (Ride Inspector) and heard on normal fair related talkgroups.

Only a few more days before the start of the fair and already the traffic has begun. Internal fair security has been active recently on Wake Co TRS Wake PS Event 6A (Analog TG 26832). Have been hearing radio checks and check-ins from around the grounds. Also, Fair Grounds staff have been heard on VIPER NCSFMAIN TG 52071.

Starting Wednesday the following systems/talkgroups will be activated on the RR live stream (currently state events channels are not active due to law enforcement activities not allowed on the live stream):

Viper (monitoring three Raleigh towers - W Raleigh, Archdale & NCSHP Training Center)

51601-51608 NC Dept Agriculture Admin, Common,Dist, FD,MP,PID,VS & TG-1
51971-51975 Statewide Events Channels Echo 1-4 & Foxtrot 1
**(above Talkgroups used past 2 years, will monitor & change as needed)
52046-52050 NC State Fire Marshall Admin, County, East, Raleigh, & West
52070-52072 NC State Fairgrounds Admin, Main, & Maintainance

I encourage you to listen on Thursday and post what you are hearing and on what TG, as I need to work all day/night Thursday. Corrections to the feed will be made on Friday as needed.

Been hearing VIPER TG 46516 the past couple of days, it is not identified or in the database. So far, in my logging there is only one RID seen for all transmissions 2000039 which is in the range of RIDs for the State Fairgrounds radios and NC Dept of Ag radios. If anyone local is monitoring this perhaps you can help ID it, remember hearing this last year as well. Wondering if maybe the VIPER BU for Wake Event 6A????

Through monitoring, I have verified that Echo 1,2 & 4 are correctly labeled in the OP, so it is a good bet that Echo 3 and Foxtrot 1 are correct. I've also heard callsign ROBERT IDA when the ride inspector was requested. Also internal fairgrounds securitty/staff continue to be active mainly on the Wake Trunked System Talkgroup WAKE EVENT 6A as listed in the above posts.

I was having scanner issues with feed scanner, it has been switched out and seems to be working properly now. Please report any audio issues (IE no audio) so I can correct it if the problem continues. Thanks @gwcooke for letting me know.

The State Fair has ended and the feed has been taken offline. Thanks to all who listened, gave feedback, and/or comments. Looking forward to doing it again next year.
