Are you monitoring the 240-270 Mhz band? Can you only hear the satellite when it is going overhead, if so where to you learn the times ( over your area ) , satellite name, country that owns it & transmit frequencies ?

When do you know to monitor? These stations are not transmitting all the time, correct?

Don’t need a yagi at all. A simple QFH will work and a lot of pirates you can hear easily just off the whip.
What you can use and get away with wholly depends where you are in relation to the satellites, the elevation above the horizon and obstructions.

Here I can't hear anything on a discone, and instead use a yagi and a Harris, both with preamps.

Yeah being on Australia and close to the southernmost point of it I would imagine so, I was mostly referring to the other posters asking since they’re in the North America and EU regions. I even saw video someone receiving on their kitchen window with a 2m duck and one of those 1.25 meter band chinese handhelds that covers the whole 200 range. I have to use my Diamond RH205 5/8 wave telescopic on the WS1040 if I want to get it portable.

Yours (CONUS & LANT) are well below my horizon but I see 9 milsats in total horizon to horizon POR & IOR.

I was referring to reception of these satellites in general. If one happens to be in the right location then a whip or discone might suffice, but normally something better is needed. You are doing well with what you are using.

It is a case of try whatever antenna is available and see :)

Many used to have fleet broadcast continuous data channels in the range 250.350 - 250.700MHz, which were good to check reception.

Do we have a list of the actual viable birds names and azimuths? N2yo has a list but does not do transponders or freqs for specific birds
Found some thanks hunch it would be the USA series...

I've not found all the info in one place, so its been a case of using multiple sources (which may or may not be up to date).

I can list my sources which will also work for you CONUS folk if you haven't found what you are after.
