33.7 Fire comms check

Hey folks every day just after 0900 est I hear a Mid State fire comms check on 33.7 mhz via skip here in Ireland - the signals are up and down a lot - I'm wondering if I am listening to simplex traffic back and forth it seems like that at times) or is everything I'm hearing coming from one station- maybe rebroadcasting from UHF?

Today the test identified as Fitchburg and goes out on 31.1 at the same time.

Anyone clarify exactly how this works?

This is a repeater with 33.70 as the input frequency and 31.1 as the output. So, 33.70 is simplex and 31.1 all comes from the one repeater.

That is kind of cool.
Most of the time you can't hear the output of the repeater in the far corners of the fire district that it is supposed to cover.

Also check at 0915 Eastern Time for Barnstable County Contyrol on 33.700. You'll only hear them, not any of the answering stations, but another DX target. Nice catch!

I seem to remember a time when I could hear the stations responding. Anyway here's Barnstable a few days ago.

Fitchburg Ma to Ireland, approximately 2,900 miles overseas. Your signal sounds louder and clearer than some stuff I listen to 30 miles from home. Nice catch

Back then the Dispatch likely had it patched to/from the 800 Trunk, now they just likely Simulcast when Dispatch keys up only

This is a few years old but Dukes county fire was heard replying on 33.700.
