That's easy enough, if you have digital comms in your area, choose the 396. If you have no digital comms in your area, choose the 330.

Honestly though, if it was me, I'd take the 396 regardless of what kind of comms are in my area (Richmond is digital, but that's irrelevent here). Uniden, IMHO, missed the mark with the 330 by not including SSB tuning capability. What's the sense in offering 100 khz - 25 mhz in a wideband radio if you can't recieve most of what is in this frequency range? Seems like a wasted effort on Unidens part.

Get the 396 regardless. It does everything the 330T does and more.

Plus, you never know when some state agency will switch to digital.

Undisclosed urban location.
Well you can look at this way.
I doubt you have much in the way of digital in or around Yukon.

Now to look at the view from a paranoiac perspective.
Suppose power is lost from a tornado or major storm and it's statewide.
Okay, maybe half a state.

With a power loss local comms will be sketchy at best.
With a 330 you could still be able to have contact with the outside world.
Remember Katrina?
Remember FEMA?

It's a drastic view.
But it's why I got mine, cause you never know.

Uh, am I missing something? Why is that a reason to choose the 330 over the 396?

And the 330 receives ALL the UHF TV channels, not just some.

All in all, I would likely go for the 396 just in case digital comes to town later.

Go for the BCD396T now! Then get the wife something nice in return. Then...when you're birthday rolls around, start hinting about the BC330T!

29 years of being married, and strategizing!

Not sure how that relates to fireant's question?

The shortwave coverage of the BR330 is hampered both by lack of SSB capability and limitations of the rubber duck antenna to receive that band. As far as broadcast band coverage goes, the 330 does have some coverage the 396 lacks, but that's an expensive replacement for a simple transitor radio or one with tv audio coverage.

Your 246T covers everything else the 330 covers, except mil-air, which your Pro-97 can handle, as well as the 396.

You're just west of Oklahoma City, in the metro area. While you may not have many digital systems in range now, odds are you will in the next few years. According to the database, OKC shows an EDACS system in testing. While nothing available will help with the talk groups that will be Pro-voice, at some point, more of the state agencies are likely to go digital. Oklahoma DPS shows a mixed mode digital system with coverage in your county now. I'd say go with the 396.

Another consideration is how much you travel. You may be visiting an area that does have digital systems and have the desire to monitor them.

I choose the 396 since my other radios cover everything and with digital coming soon to the state system here. Thanks for all the information and advice.
