i am very green to scanners lol, i have a 3600xlt and have used sentinel to put channels on it and update the firmware, but i cant get any reception, i think i get 1 channel which is very local and thats it. i live on the west coast of scotland a bit out of the way, is there a way of boosting my reception to pick up more channels. this isnt the first scanner i have had and i have had the same problem with them all. any help would be appreciated thankyou.

I hear nothing as well if I use my scanners own rubber antenna. If you live far from the transmitters you would like to receive then you'll need to use an outdoor roof antenna as high up as possible. Radiosignals needs a clear path to your antenna or they will be highly attenuated, needing a very good antenna to pick up their weak signal strength.

Steve Holloway have a Facebook page where he has different scanner programs. You select a grid square in a UK map and the program produces all frequencies for that area as a Uniden file to be downloaded to your scanner from Sentinel. Then it's a matter of installing the best antenna for the frequency band you are the most interested in, or compromise and use a discone antenna. I have to use several directional high gain yagi antennas and high 8dB gain vertical antennas to get anything to monitor.
