Just got my scanners in from Scanner Master.Just to let everyone know that the 396XT is working incredible on the fleetnet towers. Digital Tg's and conventional P25 frequencies sound great!

Tried some fire tone out searches and worked amazing!:D
I won't bore you on what the 396XT can do, I am sure you guys know already.

Now that the 396XT is all ready and scanning, got to go figure out the new GRE way of programming!

Take care guys

I'm super jealous right now Ron... looking forward to adding one of these new units to my arsenal :)

Great to hear it works well with the radio systems in our area... I know Barrie P25 will get down to Newmarket - Aurora on the new Moto xtl2500 mobile so it should be hitting you pretty good from Barrie...

Are you just using the stock antenna or do you have something else?

Hi SuperTex,

Last night was just on the stock antenna in the house. This morning was on my new MAXSCAN 1000 mounted on the van and was working superb.

Me three!

I barely use my 396 as it is so the last thing I need is a 396XT... but I don't care :p

I just need to go sit in the corner and chant 'My Pro-106 and Pro-96 work just fine' over and over.....

I had my 996T and 246T stolen so I can kinda justify the purchase...except my fiance seams to want to buy a house for some reason??? At least we agree on the need for an Antenna when we do buy...

Anyone got an idea how I can justify buying a 396XT to the wife? I already got a 396T, 796D, Pro-96, and 9 other radios. I want a 396XT.

- Inform her that it is for "the family's" safety, you never know when a crazied lunatic might be parading around the neighbourhood and the latest technology, in your opinion, will let you rest better at nite

- taking the family to gramma's, wouldn't want to be late for the turkey if there is an accident miles in front of you allowing you to take a detour instead of sitting with MILLIONS of people WITHOUT a scanner and having the latest gadget will guarantee an early arrival

- winter time for road conditions and closures

- Tell her you are the man of the house and that if she can buy shoes for everyday of the year, you can get another scanner

If you go with the last one, lemme know how that works out for you :)

I agree totally with what everyone has said so far. I was one of those thinking "Well, my 396T is good enough, I'll make do with it."

Today I took the plunge, went to Radioworld and bout the 396XT totally on impulse. (Incidentally, they got them in on Tuesday this week....)

I'm just AMAZED at the sound difference. Not only is the P25 a million times better sounding, but the 396XT seems to make the Motorola systems and the LTR systems in particular sound better. I'm using the same $30 Diamond rubber duck antenna I bought for my 396, and the XT even seems to be a lot more sensitive.

Well, I'm a satisfied customer for sure. Now i get to spend Easter weekend programming in frequencies! :)
