Hello all,
Before I post this question, please let me say I combed through the forums and while I learned a lot I didn't get an answer to my question. So let me throw it out here and see if any sages or tinkerer's have the exact answer.
I live in SE Jackson County. Out near south of James A Reed Wildlife.
I am using a 396xt scanner.
I have the following:
Radio Shack Model: 20-006 whip antnenna (is this the best portable for non specific ranges?)
Center-Loaded Telescoping Whip Antenna : Telescoping Antennas | RadioShack.com
as well as
RadioShack® Outdoor Scanner/Ham Discone Antenna Model: 20-043
RadioShack Outdoor Scanner/Ham Discone Antenna : Scanner Antennas | RadioShack.com
I am wanting to run a cable through an existing hole in the house (vent for dryer) out to an external garage some 30' distant from the house. (Call it 15' of cable from desk to external vent hole)
I then want to mount an Antenna on the garage on the hope that it will be able to pick up say Raytown, KCPD, etc.
I know from my prior questions that the loss for using RG8 is going to almost nullify the use of the antenna (correct?).
So, if this is true is there anything I can do for say under $100 that would make a viable antenna situation so that I can pick up the broadcasts listed.
Is there a better cable or is there an amp i could use?
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks
Alex

LMR-400 would be ideal but it can be expensive. RG-8/U is the next best but at the higher frequencies, the loss is nearly double with RG-8 compared to LMR-400.

You should look at one of these ST2 scanner antenna's~~~>Antennacraft Scanner Antennas
It comes with 50' of RG6 coax.

I set-up one of these antennas with my BCT15x and I used ALL of the 50' of supplied coax and had to add an additional 15' of coax cable I had lying around from back in the Adelphia Cable company days.
I am quite happy with it's performance, someday I'll get me some LMR-400 just to see if I actually was missing anything using the RG6 coax.

Do a Google search on this ST2 antenna and find the best price. I bought mine from Amazon, the antenna was shipped from Solid Signal.
