Hi,

Really curious about this, so figured you folks would know.

On 4.750 am, at 11:33 UTC (morning inBoston):

A repetitive "beep". Quite fast.

Any idea what it is ?

Thanks,
Bob

Is it propagating? If it isn't propagating (fading in and out) it could be some sort of RFI.

If it's propagating, it may be some sort of utility, or a small beacon. There are some 'illegal', and maybe some legal beacons in the 4 MHZ region.

I thought CODARs sounded like 'sweeps' when the SSB was engaged. Then again, I haven't tuned one in in probably 5 years, so maybe that's changed. I do know they're all over the place. There also is a website that has their locations on a Google-maps type map.

FWIW, there are a few CODARS I heard earlier tonight just above that frequency, could hear the sweeping sounds, even with an AM SW radio (my G2).

Hi,

Interesting.

I knew/know nothing about Codars.

Good to learn something.

CODAR can sound very different in different RX modes. Also, if there are two CODARs on overlapping frequencies (common) that can make it even more variable.

Here is a video of a CODAR on my YouTube channel. About 1 minute into the video I start using different RX modes to give an idea of how the sound can change, depending on your settings. And this does not even take into account overlapping CODARs.

Very good representation of the sound of CODAR. I've heard the last sort of sound the most. My SSB radios probably are 4-3 khz at most.

As for the beeps the OP heard, I think I've heard some of them also beeping at times. But I'm going by memory. Haven't tuned CODAR spectrums in years. Should probably take those radios out of the closet and fire one of them up....
