Hi all, I'm in PA and hearing CHP skip nearly daily after noon to sundown. I've got all of the CHP database in my 325. Every once in a while I hear what sounds like data or tones of some sort. It does have a PL on it. Most recent capture was 42.92 pl 103.5 @ 1604 Eastern time. Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on the tones I'm hearing. Thanks!

It's not CHP. Their channels are analog voice. It may be a manufacturer's test frequency or Wildlife Tracking. Try the FCC database, start with a nation wide search and narrow down the possibilities. There are 54 Licenses on that frequency (42.92)

Here's the link to the FCC: License Search
Go to "Advanced Search" at lower left of page.

Good Luck !

Got an audio sample for us? CHP could be experimenting with ANI or GPS data at that office. We see that they've evolved away from the one-size-fits-all model elsewhere. Can someone in CC give a listen?

Why would CHP experiment with low band ANI or GPS when the system already exists on much higher and reliable frequencies?

That frequency and tone is CHP Maroon Base as mentioned above. This is the patrol area east of Oakland. Sounds you were hearing could be coming from the unit's computer in the vehicle or other alerts in the car. I often hear them in the background of a mobile unit talking. Dispatch would ID as "Golden Gate".
