My 436 HP scanner will not recognize batteries installed I've tried different brands all of which are 2,300mHa or greater. I can't run discovery or record or playback.
You only need 1 volt over the battery terminals, top left are + and bottom right are ground, to get it to detect that batteries are present and enables recording. It doesn't need much current so a 1kOhm resistor is enough to any power source that has 1 volt or more. If one battery cell are faulty it could have a total breakdown and not let any voltage pass thru it, or the battery contacts in the scanner could be dirty or have come loose from the circuit board.
OP stated they tried different brand batteries with no luck. I would say at one point batteries had been put in backwards and popped the protection diode that would mean a trip to Uniden for repair unless the OP is very good with a soldering iron.

It is possible that only the center battery is facing the wrong direction. If all 3 are installed in the same direction, it may be that the scanner is receiving only 1.2v or 1.5v which would not do any damage.
But the OP stating it does not recognize any batteries now.
The OP needs to look at the battery compartment close to see if the batteries are in the scanner correctly.
If they are then a trip to see Dr Uniden.
