I was scanning around the UHF frequencies the other day and heard some type of paging or packet system running on 454.170 or 454.175. I searched in the database and it came up with nothing.
Just curious if anyone knows what this could be.

I'm from the Appleton area and the signal gives me a S9 reading on my IC-T90a.

It's 454.175 and belongs to JSM TELE-PAGE, INC., with headquarters in Washington, D.C. and under the operating control of LUKAS, NACE ,GUTIERREZ & SACHS, LLC.

The call sign for all their Wisconsin operations is KNKD729 and has a morse code keyer for system ID. The Appleton system is located at LAT: 44.14.42 by LON: 88.30.16 if you have a GPS unit. They have paging transmitters scattered about in mid to major sized cities in the mid west. This info is from the FCC Database.

Thank You. I'll have to remember to search the FCC database next time.

That would explain why it's such a stron signal. I live about 7 miles away from that site

It's most likely paging, I recieve similar transmissions while searching through the 454.xxx band. There is a company here in my area called Futronics. While searching through the FCC's database I've found that they have a bunch of frequencies licenced to them for paging, Two way LTR systems and just standard IG pool licencing. Hope this helps ya out a little. Happy Scanning
