For the past few days/nights I am hearing law enforcement on 461.6125

I am approx 30 miles west of Albany NY. I hear them running tags, responding to suicidal subject etc etc on this freq. I have heard references to: West Harrison, Port Chester and Croton. In fact, I often here "Croton out".

It is a little annoying monitoring this though as every 2-3 seconds it has an interuption when there is otherwise silence. For lack of a better way to explain it, it sounds like someone keys a mic and then un-keys it immediately. this is non-stop though every 2-3 seconds.

This traffic is (guessing) quite a distance southeast of me. Frequencies like this one, arent they generally close range?

Sounds like some sort of LTR system...

Sounds like the New York City water supply police on an LTR system.

Gentlemen,

Goosetown Communications has the contract to provide radio service to the NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Police outside the City limits. WQGG466 is issued to Gossetown's licensing arm and includes that frequency. See if any of the tower sites shown on the license are near you. Goosetown is well known for using EFJohnson LTR systems. http://www.goosetown.com/wide-area.htm Before the upgrade, all you needed was an LTR capable scanner (TrunkTracker III or Triple Trunker, depending on if you prefer Uniden or Radio Shacks) to cut the noise. Now that they've migrated to LTR Passport, I beleive we're out of luck.

West Harrison, Port Chester, and Croton are all in Westchester County just North of New York City. West Harrison and Port Chester are near the intersection of I95 and I287. Croton is along the Hudson River North of the Tappen Zee Bridge/I87.
