I've been monitoring 464.200 for quite some time now. I've been hearing some interesting comms relating to making deliveries to Absolute, picking up case 0195, stopping by at the Stationary store, and just now I heard them mention they had to call a customer because they were making a delivery at an apartment complex. The only town I heard them mention was Perth Amboy so far, however I can receive them very strong in Union County. They seem to have a very powerful repeater system. In the FCC database, that frequency is listed for the United Parcel Service along with a few other companies that don't relate to deliveries. Does anyone have any more information regarding this frequency? Thank you very much.

The UPS license is for a base at Parsippany and mobiles within 32 km (no repeater). Also the licensed ERP is pretty low. They may not be operating according to the license, but...

I wonder if what you're hearing is M&W Comm's repeater in Green Brook, or another SMRS (I haven't checked all the licenses). WPFK614. Are you getting any PL or DPL, or an LTR talkgroup on it?

My scanner doesn't have PL capability, therefore I cannot say if there is one. However, I am hearing them communicating by saying Base to mobile ONe, Base to Mobile Two, and also heard them say Base to Ranger, whatever that means. What is M & W Comm's repeater? Is this a business of some kind? Whatever I'm hearing is some sort of stationary or delivery company that deals with both large companies and private customers. I have a feeling UPS may be using a more powerful transmitter than allowed. Keep me posted. Thanks!

Ups Nj

I recently did some observations on the UPS plant in Edison, and based on this the repeater used for the plant operations is very low power. I can't even hear it two miles away from there, so I don't believe that UPS in Union County area would be using a high power repeater. Also, the UPS dispatch freq. in Edison is a high power base with a low power moble use. The callsign for UPS-Edison is WPMR698. I also used Jim Robbins reference page for businesses in the county, which can be found here: http://www.jim-robbins.com/radio/middlesex.html#edison

I'll see what else I can find out.

M&W is basically a radio shop (repair & retail, public safety & business) which also has some repeater channels they lease access to. Many radio shops found this profitable; I think cell phones in general and Nextel in particular have taken business from this industry so there seems to be a gradual reduction in the use of such repeaters.

On similar channels I've heard sanitation companies, landscapers, tow services, private school buses, taxis, private ambulances; the list goes on and on. Notice on the license that the transmitter type is FB6 -- the FCC's code for "Private Carrier (profit)."

Often these repeaters use LTR trunking, but could use PL or DPL instead. There may be just one leasee per channel or multiple; there can be anywhere from one channel at one tower to dozens of channels at a handful of sites.

One of these repeaters is 464.200 in Green Brook, licensed to M&W. Skimming the list of 464.2000 repeater licensees in north NJ, only two other possibilities jump out at me: Potts (Mid-State Communications) in Mercer County (WPBI999) and FBN Wireless in Warren County (WPNS365). This presumes that what you are hearing is repeated and that all 464.200 users are licensed and operating accordingly (a dangerous presumption).

I suspect you're hearing a small courier or similar service using a channel on the M&W repeater. I wasn't receiving anything on that frequency this afternoon, so someone closer than I will have to verify.
