I occasionally copy radio checks on 44.9 - never more than this. Have yet to hear any comms on 47.5..........am wondering, with all the attention on civil defense comms/drills, if anyone has noted activity on these freqs.

DOC,
As I have mentioned before in a previous post.
44.90 is liscenced by MSP as a Nuclear Power Plant Incident Channel. That I know of is very rarely ever used. (as we here at MEMA due not have any capability of monitoring or using.

As for 47.50 it is still lisc. for MEMA but it is a Frequency that is not used any more as we have moved to the VHF High Frequencies noted in the Military Dept Frequencies.

Also yes the VHF High Frequencies are not that active as Nextel (JUNK) is the Primary use for communications however the VHF High Frequencies will begin to be used more & more now that the 24-7 Watch Center is Manned by Staff (such as myself).

Hope this helps

Nathan,

Thanks for your response and for your prior postings. I'd copied some rather frequent, but faint radio traffic on 44.9 over the last week (perhaps merely skip - user not clearly identifiable)....had considered that perhaps there was some new/increasing use of our old low-band civil def freqs.

Thank you for keeping us all so well informed.
