I purchased my 536 on February 18 on Amazon from a 3rd party seller, 'scanner-depot'. Not being familiar with these newer scanners I paid 534.00 and that included programming. I received it promptly in the factory packaging with all the accessories and no real problems. Seems like someone may be trying to hold the pricing up.

I had to make a return last year when I purchased a 536HP. In the box, someone had placed an old 1990's Uniden floater from Japan.

Maybe this is what they mean?

That's entirely likely. People read about the fraud and decide it's a good way to get a new scanner for nothing, so they copycat it.

It's keeping buyers "safe" by eliminating all sales rather than make customers accountable or fighting the chargeback. Something about bathwater and a baby come to mind.

That sort of knee jerk reaction is not only commonplace these days, but is becoming the norm.

Well, it's not the fraud since they cite "relevant product safety testing documentation and certification" from a lab. Uniden should have that.

I received an email today from Amazon indicating that they are removing all listings for the Uniden 536HP due to "safety concerns" and advised that they will not allow future listings of that product.

They do not elaborate as to basis for these concerns. I search of Amazon for the 536 shows no listings at all.
There are listings for the 436.

Is there something about the scanner we should be concerned about? Will it go on fire? Cause electrical shock? Invite aliens from another galaxy?

Anyone have any info on this? In light of the new whiz bang unit coming out soon, it would be nice to know about remaining issues in their former "flagship" scanner, some 4 years later.....

I wonder if it could possibly be related to this?

The x36 scanners have indeed become a significant safety issue... to Whistler's bottom line.

There have got to be plenty of owners here with many hours of real-world experience. I would certainly believe that if there were an actual "safety" problem with the x36HP scanners, we'd have read about it on this forum by now. I'm guessing that some Amazon customer probably brought his 536 into the shower, and had an "illuminating" experience. :)

Were missing the obvious.
Since the 436 is not being affected it must be due to it being mobile.
To many people playing with the scanner in their vehicles.
Perhaps some people got bored and crashed their vehicle just to listen to it on the scanner in their car.

EDIT: apparently some people think im being serious. Im not. Its a joke. Sarcasm. In reference to the safety concern of amazon pulling the product i made light of it being only the mobile version which some people put in cars.

The 436 is portable. The 536 is mobile,

If that was the case, all other kinds of "mobile" radios would be pulled too.

As much as I hate to propagate conspiracy theories, I'm intrigued by the post about Huawei and ZTE. The WiFi widget may have chipsets/technology from either of those companies in there.

Having said that, though, I have several products with ZTE tech in them in my home. Granted, I am in Canada, not the US. And Huawei is a fairly prolific Android phone supplier, so if there's a campaign against either of them, it's going to manifest in a lot more than just a single radio scanner model being removed from Amazon.

I'm trying to direct my $ elsewhere than Amazon anyway since they have stopped selling Google and related products (because the Google Home ecosystem competes directly with Alexa).

That reads more like a bot is removing products that it thinks don't have safety certifications from UL, CSA, etc. That could be legitimate... not that the 536 doesn't have it, but that the bot has gone awry and is nuking products without just cause.

There is no safety issue with the product. I recommend you purchase from a reputable scanner reseller like Scanner Master, Bearcat Warehouse, Ham Radio Outlet, Universal Radio, etc. At places like these you get great followup support you will never be able to get from Amazon.

Is that really the point though? Isn't the point that Uniden is losing [potential] revenue if vendors who purchase scanners from Uniden for the sole purpose of selling them on Amazon can no longer sell them on Amazon? I mean isn't it a concern to Uniden that the biggest sales site in the US doesn't allow the selling of some Uniden scanners?

Hey, I guess if Uniden is fine by that, then I should be [and am]. I think somebody was trying to help Uniden out by making you all aware of what was going on.

As for as buying from reputable places that you mentioned, many of those reputable places are selling scanners at exhorbitant costs -- and why would anyone want to buy a scanner from them if they can get the same thing for $50 or $100 cheaper. Historically that's what everyone has done.

I won't mention which one, but there is at least one vendor on your list of reputable vendors whom I would never give a dime to :)

At any rate, thank you [and your Uniden comrades] for the innnovation and for the updates to the 436/536 series!

I have a feeling the SDS100 will put a serious panic into the share holders at Whistler. This could sink the company completely in the scanner business. Not sure share holders want to lose money at this point. On the other hand it may be a good time to buy Uniden stock.
