Caught the very tail end of this on 5449 kHz USB @ 1304. Sounds like a Chinese female voice kept repeating something then signed off. It was already in progress as I tuned so could not get very much.

Station was up again at 1100z and 1300z. It just keeps repeating the same thing heard in the above recording for about 5 mins then signs off. I have some terrible radar that made reception tough during this mornings check.

The radar is a Chinese OTHR that is regularly on this frequency. And the voice was up today starting at about 1300 (I tuned to it in progress at 1301 but had checked the freq at 1259 and nothing was there) and ending at 1304:57. I wonder if the startup has anything interesting in it? Tomorrow I will have to set on the freq starting before 1300.

(edit) Up at 1500 also. Started witha tone, right into the repeated numbers, and the same ending. Nothing new getting the whole thing except the tone at beginning that was exactly on the hour. You can hear a hum come on when the transmitter is turned on, the hum started about 10 seconds before the top of the hour.

This signal was also up on 5449 kHz USB at 1700 UTC. However, this time it came on in mid word about 10 seconds before the hour and there was no starting tone. It ended at 1704:47

So it was up today 1100, 1300, 1500, and 1700 for sure, every odd hour. I checked 1400 and 1600 but heard nothing I could be sure of, while the 1300, 1500, and 1700 were unmistakable. At one point during 1600 I thought I heard a male voice repeating something, but it was very weak and I could not confirm it was anything like the female voice message.

My recording of the full TX with tone during the 1500 hour is here, the slight feedback like sound is not on the real signal, but an artifact of the noise canceling I had to do to pull it out of the OTHR:

Hey Token
I also logged it at 0900 this morning.
Excellent audio clip and YouTube. You had a great copy on it!

5449 station

Token's youtube recording consisted of the female op calling shucan or xucan (sounds like shoo tsan) 01. At the end of her calls she gave the time (2105) says literally "no business, out"

The transmission started at 1300z and lasted for 5 minutes. Beijing is UTC+8 and all of China is on Beijing time. Other recordings have had a little flute music just before calling begins. This is very, very likely a PRC numbers station.

brandon, for the last two days this station has been active on 6326 USB. I heard it in the 1300 time frame yesterday (09 October, 2011) and heard it this morning in the 1100 time frame (10 Ocotober, 2011). Yesterday I could not be near the radio after 1300 so I have no idea if it was active after 1300. Today I set recordings for all odd hours after 0000 but so far only the 1100 was active (both locally and with remote receivers), I used remotes located in Asia at 0900 and did not find it active at that time.

I assume it will be active today in the 1300 time slot, I am set to auto-record all odd hours for the rest of the day.

Yes, it was active at 1300 and 1500, waiting now for 1700. I have checked the even hours and for other frequencies, but no joy. Also checked other freqs ar 0900 when I did not find it on 6326, gut again no joy.

Since she ends "no business" one would assume that eventually it will be more than a null message.

(edit) up now at 1701 UTC, 6326 USB, came up 1 minute late and ended in mid word, no time tag on the end this time.

1900 UTC, 10/10/2011, a change to the 6326 signal. Now a male voice, not recorded. Instead of repeating the same thing continuously from top of the hour until 5 minutes after the male voice came on at the top of the hour, said a term about 10 times rapidly, went off for one minute, repeated the same term 8 to 10 times, repeating this process until 4 minutes 45 seconds after the hour, then the term was said a few times followed by something else that might have been a time tag.

There was no activity before the male voice started, and no activity after the male voice stopped the last time at 1904:45.

I do have a recording but had such heavy QRM and bad signal that I doubt it is going to be of much good. http://www.token.hpathome.net/Share..._6326_USB_10102011_1900_start_heavyfilter.mp3

All other activity so far today, 1100, 1300, 1500, and 1700 has followed the past pattern, roughly top of the hour start, female voice, recorded or synthesized voice, repeating continuously until about 5 minutes after the hour. I have also noted that in the background of each transmission on this frequency and the other 5449 kHz frequency is heard a Chinese 4+4 modem. It is definitely coming form the same transmitter as the voice and it could be audio crosstalk.

5449/6326 revisited

Now that I have had a chance to listen to the activity on 5449 and 6326U, I have to wonder just what this stuff is.

I have a recording dated 29 Aug 11 of the female repeatedly calling 3596 on 6326U. Sounds a numbers station calling there. The recording was not long enough to tell if there was a message.

On 28 Sep 11 during the 1300z hour, I have her calling 4301 on 5449. I got it wrong in a previous message. I also have a recording of the same thing on 30 Sep during the 1500z hour.

On 17 Oct I started making recordings from 6326U. There is serious QRN on this freq. At 0900z the same female was noted calling 7184 and giving a time-hack at the end.

1000z A male op was calling 7184, but it was not repeated calls. It sounded like live calling with a push-to-talk mic. He got a reply back, but it was very weak. There were several short exchanges during my 7-minute recording.

1100z a male op passing repeated calls to 7184 just like the female was at 0900z. Sounds like he was making a time-hack at the end, but it was cut off when my recording stopped.

1200 4751 and 7184 working. Only the calls were readable.

1300z Instead of recorded calling, 7184 was called by a male op who had a pretty good signal. Another guy who wasn't as strong either sent 7184 the group 800 or was using 800 for a callsign.

1400z possible modem transmissions.

1500z Female calling 7184 like a recording.

1600z more possible modem transmissions. Voice transmission seem to stop after 1500z.

Oct 18 2011

1100z, 1300z, 1500z Female calling 7184.

1400z, 1600z possible modem transmissions.

Oct 19, 2011

0900z, 1100z, 1300z, 1500 Female calling 7380

1400z Sounded like a couple of male ops. One passed possible opcodes 7007 0005

So I don't think it's a numbers station after all.

Back on 5449

After a few weeks on 6326KHz, the odd Chinese traffic has returned to 5449KHz. I was able to pick up the female op, probably recorded, calling 7413 around 1100z. High winds knocked out the power at my QTH just after that. 1300z has been the best hour for copy, so far.
