• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is it possible to program the soft key P1 to revert to a home channel. I have the radio set on power up to default to my home channel. I would like to be able to just hit soft key instead of having to scroll thru the channels to get back to home channel.

I don't have my programming laptop with CPS in front of me, but from what I can find online and with AI help, this sounds about right:

  1. Go to the button map
    • Radio Configuration → Buttons
    • Under Buttons, choose Front Panel Buttons (not Accessory or Control Head, unless you’re using a remote head).
  2. Set P1 actions
    • You’ll see entries for:
      • P1 – Short Press
      • P1 – Long Press
      • (Sometimes) P1 – Double Press (depends on model/firmware)
    • Click the action you want and pick one of the following from the dropdown (wording varies slightly by CPS build/firmware, but the functions are the same):
      • Home Channel
      • Zone Home Channel
      • Revert Channel (a.k.a. Home Revert)
      • One‑Touch Call (can also force a specific Home/Revert behavior if the contact is tied to a particular channel)
  3. Define the “Home” target (if needed)
    • Channels → Zones → Your Zone → set Home Channel for that zone.
If no Home Channel is defined, the Home/Zone Home options won’t behave as expected.

OK so my above post is part correct.

I'm using CPS 2 138.245 so not much newer than yours.

Go to Configuration -> General -> Control Buttons
Assign your P1 button (either short or long) to One Touch Access 1.

Scroll down a bit to One Touch Access settings.
For One Touch Access 1, click in the field for Mode and change to Home Revert.
Then click in the field for Channel Zone and choose your preferred zone.
Then click in the field for Channel and choose your preferred channel.
