I live on the Indiana side of the Kentucky/Indiana state line and I sometimes pick up what sounds like a Motorola Type II control channel on 859.9875MHz. However, it doesn't come in strong enough for me to be able to get a system ID off of it.
I looked up the frequency on the FCC database and it registered to the Commonwealth Of Kentucky. The radio service is classified as "GE" but the FCC site does not have an explanation of that particular service code that I could find. The emission code is 20K0F1D which would indicate that it is not used for voice. The callsign is WQFV627 and shows a grant date of 10/16/06. There are a few other sites listed under this callsign also.
The strange part is this frequency is also listed under the callsign of WQEY565 with a radio service code of "GP" which is public safety/special emergency. The emission code is the same. It shows a grant date of 5/18/06. The only common location for both callsigns, on the identical frequency, is in Carter County. There also other sites listed under this callsign also.
Anyone have any idea what this frequency may be used for?
Take care!
