The good news is that you have a choice, and Uniden was accommodating the variety of desires.

I prefer the green over the red, but give the awesome features of this radio I wouldn't care if the only color was lavender with pink dots.

996 display FHP Turnpike

Great pics. Congrats on your "new arrival".

I thought Fla Hwy Patrol was switching away from Motorola.

What type of system are you listening to on the FHP????

Thanks!
Julian

At the time I took the pictures, FHP was still using the Motorola digital system in Miami-Dade County. But as of the morning of June 14th, it seems to be turned off, the control channels are gone. Looks like Florida is now completely EDACS ProVoice for all state law enforcement. :(

So you can't listen to any law enforcement in Florida anymore? If so, that stinks! Kind of defeats the purpose of having scanners as that's usually where all the "action" is.

No, you just can't listen to the State of Florida's own system. I can still listen to the County and all the cities around where I live, as is the case in most all of Florida. There are a few exceptions of agencies that are encrypted, like Jacksonville and maybe a few others.

Maybe they will repeal some of the stupid scanner laws?

And when cellular systems are no longer required to maintain analog channels (most I know around here have very few left on anyway) will they repeal that stupid law?

I was actually looking forward to red, but this isnt even close to red, looks the same as my 246, orange. The preview and stock images were very misleading. Those chinamen must have installed the wrong leds.

Yah me too, when I was in highschool I had a Denon stereo in my truck, the backlighting was red and it looked really sweet!

I think it's quite misleading to show preview pictures of a red light, and label it red internally when its actually orange. I also think its very misleading to show the images with a rubber plug in the serial port if its not going to ship with the unit. In my humble opinion both qualify as false advertising.

I can live with the lighting, green isnt bad, but I really would like a rubber plug. :)

Just have a BCD796D - orange, a BCD396T - blue, and a BCD996T - green . . . then you've got all the bases covered.

Red is better in the dark. Easier on the eyes.

In the direct sunlight niether make any difference.

In room light the green is brighter and easier to see.

So I vote Red in the car and Green in the house :)

Yeah. Green causes night blindness...if you've ever experienced that while driving, you know what I'm talking about. Red doesn't do that. So, depending on the circumstances, I vote red.
