Quick question, I own 2 Uniden SDS200s. Both are racked in my home radio shack. I was thinking about purchasing a 996P2 to monitor the CLMRN while in my car. The size of the SDS200 is not ideal for my vehicle. I really don't want a portable, which is why I am considering a P2. How does it handle simulcasting on the CLMRN?

not well, you'd be better off with a unication in the car, even if it is less than desirable for you, it will out perform the 996
Already own a G3 so I hear you on the Unication performance. Time to invest on a G5+

Thanks for the response!👍

I have not had good results with the 996P2. The SDS100 and 200 I have are far superior, as is my G5.

Not good at all. The 996P2 is a step below the 536 in every way possible. But the SDS comparingly to anything else , scanner wise, is night and day better.

I agree 100%. Both my SDS200s are great performers, no dispute there. I had the SDS100, and I sold it. I never really liked it in the vehicle. On long trips within the state, I had to keep it plugged in. The bulky spare battery was something I didn't want to carry around. That's why I was looking into something smaller for the CLMRN, such as the 996P2 or the 325P2, for example. I assume the same issues exist on the 325P2 with regard to the simulcasting on the CLMRN.

I have to agree with this, while I use Unications for my simulcast, the 536 outdid the 996 in almost every test I tried. (well except DMR which the 996 didn't have). For simulcast just get the G5 you're talking about, you'll be glad you did.

So for my sake, and I've mentioned this a few times here, whenever I travel through CT, if I have the SDS100 on side by side of the 536 in my Jeep, there is zero comparison. The SDS100 blows the 536 out of the water on CLMRN. TGs on SDS remain in the clear, while they break up on the 536. Sometimes I won't even get a transmission on the 536 that the SDS gets. It's clear as day.

I have experience with the G-series. I own a G-3 VHF/UHF pager. I am 100% satisfied with its performance. G-5 will be the logical next step...

I've decided to wait until Uniden offers it's $2,500+. SDS300. In the meantime, I'll suffer along with the 996P2

I do like my 996P2 for home use since it stationary. I did have issues with the simulcast distortion while running it mobile as a test. Sould be nice if they could do a SDS series in the 996 or 536HP size.

I have no experience with the Home Patrol 2 (I'm assuming it is a SDS type scanner). Heard some people have had luck running that as a small
mobile.

The Home Patrol 2 is a "scanner for dummies". I have one, and have always been surprised at how sensitive the thing is. It can pick up quite a bit. However with that said, the audio's terrible on it, it doesn't do even basic simulcast. It does use Sentinel, but think of it as a 996P2 grade of scanners.

Yep agreed, that was the only scanner I tried here that balked 100% at the simulcast system we have here. Even the 996 did better but I wouldn't recommend that for simulcast. Since the OP mentioned a G5, he needs to just go there. Since he has a G3, he's already familiar with with the pagers limitations and programming.

I recently purchased a 996P2 with the intention of using it for CLMRN full well knowing that it doesn't handle simulcast distortion well. However, I am NOT located within CT, although very close. But I am at the very NE corner of the system. I did not expect from my location to have simulcast distortion issues. However I was wrong. With both an in attic antenna and with a stock back of set antenna, I had full signal but no data decode. The only way I was able to receive any voice transmissions was with a paperclip! I ended up returning it and going with an SDS100 instead.
